María Behety Lodge Fishing Report
Week 1 January 5th/ January 12th
By Federico Molinolo – Headguide
Our first week of guiding has ended. We had clients from the United States, Australia and Argentina. We had a lot of fun and worked hard to catch fish.
The river is in excellent conditions, low and clear water. There are already many fish in the river and we see hundreds of fish coming in. I think this season is going to be excellent.
Water Conditions
Water color and visibility: Clear water and good visibility
Water temperature: 8° C and 11° C
Water level and amount of increase or decrease through the week: Since last week in December the river is low, I would say lower than usual for this time. Water level is dropping just a little every day.
Weather Conditions
Wind speed ranges through the week: It was windy this week. 20 to 75 kmh
Air temperature ranges through the week: 3°C to 18°C
Fishing Conditions
Flies that are working the best: : We used small and medium size flies. EMB, Red Butt, Green machine, Olive and Black wooly buggers. Yuk bug. Tube flies on top and under. Intruders and leeches.
In some places floating lines and sunray shadow worked great
Fly lines (tips, heads, lengths, densities, etc) that are producing the best: We are used heavy tips most of the time. T-14,
Due the low water conditions I recommend to bring scandi heads, floating and sinking.
Length and strength of tippet and leaders: 4 to 12 feet. 15 to 20 pounds.
