María Behety Lodge Fishing Report
Week 3 January 19th/ January 26th
By Federico Molinolo – Headguide
Another guiding week just ended. We had the visit of some very old friends from England and United States. Fishing was very good most of the time. Weather was unstable this week: sunny, windy, overcast and we even had a lightning storm.
141 fish landed. 24 fish over 15 pounds and 3 over 20 pounds.
Water Conditions
Water color and visibility: Clear water and good visibility
Water temperature: 7° C and 12° C
Water level and amount of increase or decrease through the week: The river dropped about 3 inches this week.
Weather Conditions
Wind speed ranges through the week: It was windy this week. 10 to 80 kmh
Air temperature ranges through the week: 6°C to 18°C
Fishing Conditions
Flies that are working the best: : We used mostly small flies. EMB, Red Butt, Green machine, prince nymph, fast water prince, and some small beadheaded nymphs. Yuk bug. Tube flies on top and under. Intruders and leeches.
In some places floating lines and sunray shadow (tied in plastic or aluminum tubes) worked great
Fly lines (tips, heads, lengths, densities, etc) that are producing the best: We are using T-11 (10 to 15 feet), T-14 (10 to 12 feet).
Due the low water conditions I recommend to bring scandi heads, floating and sinking.
Length and strength of tippet and leaders: 4 to 12 feet. 15 to 20 pounds.
